Ok I couldn't wait any longer, I think I could go on working on this for at least another month but I'm inpatient.
Started this for the "Alice in Wonderland" illustration challenge over at UTOPIA and of course as usual I missed the deadline...
This isn't anything like what I had in mind when I first entered the challenge, I have no idea how I ended up with this
It represents a grown up Alice, longing for her childhood fantasies, that's why she's got some souvenirs around her room
The reference photo I used is by photographer "Tim Walker"
i would have loved to see this entered!!!
too bad you missed out...
i really like your gradient work, especially on her clothing...
are you using a mixture of meshes and gradients combined in some places?
did the original photo have her looking in the mirror, or did you put her reflection there?
Very, very nice. Love the warm colors. Some of the shadows (especially the floor) are kinda weird for me. But she is very lovely. Reminds me a little of Drew Barrymore.
Thank you muchly for the fav Zimm!
Yes I use gradients and meshes whatever works best for the shape of the vector
I'm planning on scanning the original pic, so you can all see what that looked like. She does look into a mirror but a smaller one same as the thing she's leaning on and there is no castle and stuff in that one, I added the bunny, the hat, the castle, the mushroom and the swirl on the floor (although I'm not totally sure about the swirl, I had checkers first) The door is a bit smaller than the original on purpose, I wanted to make it even smaller but that didn't work well, too much empty space above.
Yeah I'm such a slow cow, can't help it :shrugs: maybe some day I'll actually make a deadline
thank you A1WEND1L , you could be right about the shadows, the original pic had a big flowery box thingy there which I left out. I'll probably work on it some more and think about those shadows when I do
